My buddy Jason (a new trials rider) came by with his Montesa and spent most of the time working on getting the timing sorted out for log crossings. He made a lot of progress, and nailed it on a couple of attempts which is good for the confidence.

We went across the road to the neighbor's woods and I gave the big log over there that beat me a few months ago another shot. I flubbed it the first time, made it work the second and got it pretty close to right on the third try. So I had Jason record my next attempt and I got it all wrong. I completely missed the log with my front wheel, giving me no suspension compression/rebound and no rear lift. It was ugly, but I eventually made it over. That's one thing that I've gotten better at with trials - not dabbing right away. I've found that if I can stay calm and ride it out, I get away with some pretty big mistakes sometimes.

The highlight of the day was my 10 year old daughter (turned 10 this week) learning how to use a clutch. I don't have anything small enough for her with a clutch (at least not currently running), but I did have my brother's TY350 in the garage. She couldn't quite touch to hold the bike up, so I rode on the back and held on to the bars down by the crossbar. The TY has a lot of flywheel, so it's *really* easy to use the clutch, but I thought it was a good first attempt. I think she'll be fine on a "regular" bike now that she gets how it works.

All in all, we rode for about 2.5 - 3 hours. I spent about an hour with the weed eater before we rode clearing out the play area. Been busy lately and there's been a lot of rain... the stuff was knee high in some places.
Not a bad way to spend Father's day at all.
Happy Father's Day to all you dads!
