their life expectancy appears to be short. Passing on the outside of a turn and between traffic??!!!!

That is pretty much the sentiment expressed on the American boards as this video has made the rounds. I, for one, don't enjoy ripping past traffic, I would rather wait. I have been guilty of not being so patient in my younger days. However, in the Mediterranean countries (France, Italy, Greece, maybe others) this is well accepted riding behaviour. Everyone rides and drives crazy, the traffic expects it and yields. If you don't riding aggressively, people look at you like there is something wrong. I have personally witnessed on a 2 lane road in Italy, with traffic coming in both directions, a 7 series BMW put on its left blinker and pull out to straddle the yellow line. Traffic in both directions pulled one wheel on the the shoulder and yielded as the big BeeEM rocketed past everyone (apparently in the
passing lane! ). All the bikes and scooters filtered to the front of the line at every traffic lite, every lite became a drag race. No one got angry, no middle fingers. If you were coming up faster from behind, the car would yield and expect you to pass. It is quite different over there and quite an eye opener for Americans. I was well warned about it and a bit worried. But, as they say, when in Rome....
