Saturday Ride

Post by motojunky »

Took my daughter to our "secret riding spot" on Saturday. We met up with another club member but he had to bail after about an hour due to a tire issue. My daughter and I rode for another few hours. And played in the stream. And climbed rocks. And had snacks out on a bluff. She even tried to smuggle a snail home that she found in the stream.

We ended the day doing laps on the little kid-sized TT track. My daughter got faster and faster until she lost the front and tipped over. I saw it coming several laps earlier but figured it was a good safe place for her to learn that there is a limit. I took a little video of that (the track, not the crash) but haven't had a chance to upload it.

She really has outgrown the 50. I need to get off of my butt and get her TY80 together. She's reached the point where the small wheels and low ground clearance of the XR are really a problem. She got hung up on rocks and logs several times due to the lack of clearance. Once at speed she hit a small sapling that managed to wedge in between the rear brake pedal and frame, stopping her in a hurry.

Below is a video of her favorite hill climb. It's not a monster hill, but it is formidable - especially on an XR50. It's heck to run up with the camera to try to keep your kid in sight! :lol2:

With an 80 you are going to have to run a lot faster to get video!

I figure my boy needs a 70 or 80 now too. He's about 4' tall and that XR50 is fun but the tires and ground clearance ar a problem.
