A question for the "maybe" trials guys

Post by motojunky »

I know that there are a few of you who have some interest in trials but haven't yet taken action. I had a thought, and wanted to get your opinion.

In 2001, I got the itch to try trials. I got an old beater TY250 and looked for an event to attend. The only thing going was a NETA event up in CT. I went with no clue what to expect and I was a little bit nervous about it. It turned out that they had a beginner class that all rode together as a group, with an experienced mentor. That way we had help with all of the little details like finding the sections, scoring, line selection, etc. They also helped us with technique suggestions and that sort of thing. It made my first trials experience great. Unfortunately, I sold that bike and then didn't start riding trials again until a few years ago.

Anyway, if something like that was available this season, would it help convince you to bring your bike out?

Thanks for your feedback!

I'm ready to come out. My Montesa isn't. :frustrated:

If you want to come over and help me go through the bike and set it up ...

Boom Boom has me convinced to remove the sidecar and learn to ride solo. This bike needs to be gone through, clean-up, etc then I'm ready!

Sidecar racing takes priority tho :smoking:

Good post and thanks for getting the ball rolling.
I am currently working on taking my woods loop trail back from the spring green briar growth.
Cleaning up some areas in the woods for camping and plan to offer up a DAMN weekend at the farm as soon as I have trail back to good condition. I was wanting to use some of that time to offer up some trials riding areas but open enough for enduro bikes.
Was thinking try small log crossings and off camber turns on the enduro bike then have a go on a trials bike to have a better feel and understanding of what you need to do with the enduro bike.
Just use parts of the loop as sections and do scoring as in a trials, run with small groups and score each other.
Just want to offer an environment to have a go at going slow without having all the pressure of a true trials event.
Those with kids, you can not find a better venue to spend time with the youngens then trials events.
I have yet to have one person that owns or owned a trials bike but prefers enduro bikes that would not admit the trials bike made them a better overall rider.

Im lacking time and money but I totally see a trials bike in my future sooner or later.

Does anybody have a beat up trials bike that they would trade straight up for my beater Kawasaki Concours?

You don't have to break the bank to get started in trials. The Reflex I got off of Taylor was the perfect machine for me to find out if I liked trials (I do!). With about 9 HP at the wheel it's a lot easier to learn balance and technique without having to fight the power of a modern trials bike at the same time.

This one is a decent price if it runs

YES, we would be very interested in any type of beginner class or getting together for any pointers & practice.

At the moment we are with Ken on needing to get our bikes sorted out. I have some parts on order & have accumulated some others. Time to work on them has been an issue but I am getting antsy about getting them going. Hoping to get some things done this weekend. By the way I'm not trying to make em pretty but need to go through a few things. Fork seals on one, kicker on the other, mount a tire, that sort of thing. I'll post up when I get them going.... Soon I hope

I'd love to get that TL, but as usual, cash not in hand, or anywhere else. :wallbash:

I am also interested in a class and or pointer but am without a trials bike. I saw that tl and almost called. Need to make sure the cash is available first. If you need any help getting things ready I am in Carlisle most Sundays to drop my kids off to their mom.

For what it's worth the bike is misnamed in the ad, it's a TLR200.

Yup, I'd be in.

Between my whacked schedule, injury recovery and pending/possible surgery, finding time is bit rough. But me and the beater Beta are game.

I've gotten pointers and practice from BB and I have a practice track with obstacles on my property, that I ride regularly.

BTW- I picked up the Beta for like $500 and I've ridden the hell out of it at BB's a few times.Cheap fun :roost:
