Foggy Mountain Enduro Sunday 4/29 Blain PA

Just talked to the organizer and learned:

Closed Course with start controls - no ODO or time keeping needed.
Spark Arrestor IS required (but you can probably make one if necessary?)
Sound Test but probably not an issue for most folks
2 loops from start 47 (or 43 miles for lower classes) and 32 miles Gas available somewhere in 47 mile loop
Rocky trails (sort of like Michaux I'd guess)

OFG plans to try in on the Freeride!

Not sure if I'll be coming from home or from a PA R&T trail ride event on Saturday but probably coming from Frederick/home.
Blain is < 100 miles from my house.

We would like to try but spark arrester & sound might be an issue for both of our bikes. I think they always say they are required but don't enforce, I'd be curious to know if they check. Regardless I don't want to drive up & be turned away. I do think I could make some spark arresters but need some stainless steel screen.

J, I didn't notice either of your bikes being overly loud.

They both do bark if you get on it but the issue is no spark arrestors

I just installed an OLD STOCK Cobra SPARKEY add on external spark arrestor that I had bought a while back.

The organizer didn't say and the flyer didn't say anything about USFS Approved labels on anything so I'm pretty sure all they will do is stick something down the tail pipe to see if they hit a screen which would be easy to install in a stock system if it can be disassembled.

OR some local dealer MIGHT have one of the kind you stick down your tailpipe like a screen sock?

Chris Borger said it is a good event if you like technical rocky stuff and the organizer sounded friendly.

The only time my bikes have been checked for a spark arrestor is at a national enduro. This is not a national.

Get a drain strainer kit at Walmart three sizes in kit so one will fit.

Lafferty edges out OFG BigBird by 5 points in Foggy Mountain Enduro

I sort of like :loveit: the above headline.

I dropped about 1 more minute on each check than he did and felt pretty good to be that close.
I think there were actually only 3 entrants in the 70+ Grand Masters class - Perennial ECEA class winner Charlie Stapleford, Jack Lafferty Sr. and the OFG. I think Stapleford DNF so the other way to do the headline is:

OFG BigBird comes in LAST at Foggy Mountain Enduro

Foggy Mtn was a good and well run event with quite a few rocks but not really hard/tight enough to fully appreciate the Freeride - but still fun.

They didn't do any tech inspection for anything and although it was officially a "closed course" event they used lots of public roads and had the local officials at all the intersections directing bikes and keep the cars out of our way. Someone did tell me that last year they did check for spark arrestors though!

Congrats on finishing the event

So if doing the event again would you use the freeride again or the 200 KTM?

Lots of baby head rocks on that side of the mountain still lots of good riding.

Any idea what the rider count was?
