I get the impression that small 4 strokes with big tanks is what is appropriate.

I could probably be convinced to do this. Looks like my gps unit will need to be upgraded, though. Nuvi and Zumo specifically called out as gimpy.

I'm slowly saving up for a 250 4 stroke real dirt bike. That TXC250 in classifieds would be perfect.

My Garmin Montana 600 might be up for the task of navigating this trip though.

This has 525 written all over it! Montana GPS with the topo's loaded will be perfect. I wouldn't take my 800 ADV anywhere near this stuff. Mostly cause it's so tall and heavy for me in these conditions.

Only need to do 10 oil changes to finish the event (LOL) :lol2:

I have three xr650ls now and I am thinking of using those. They can easily make the trip with the tank size. They can are great gravel runners and two track type units, I already own them, they are fitted with wolf man racks and bags,
GPS Montanas are good and even have one Delorme setup with a tracker for emergency needs.

From the description on their web site, it sounds like the above sums up the Explorer Edition, but the actual Roaming Rally seems like it could be fun, provided you like wet feet....

Shame there are not any motel options at the end of each day as IMHO camping just sucks, especially after 12 hours of wet riding.

This would be perfect for the XRL but I am not participating in dragging any 950 "Adventures" out of every other deep mud hole.

Sounds like we need a minimum of 3 for our "team".

I heard Wingfixer's DRZ makes a good submarine. :peep:

They probably would both work fine. Which one has longer range? Which one has more carrying capacity? Which one is more comfortable? FWIW, if yo riding a 250 probably everyone would expect you to help pull them out....

So, if I go on a 990, I can expect everyone else to pull me out?
