I *think* gas is going to be back at the pits. Will have to see the confirmation sheet to be 100%

*edit* it does look like there will be a gas truck/trailer

I have a hydration pack that hold 2 liters, a fanny pack for snacks, and a spare gas can for wherever that goes.

Do they allow some time for lunch.... or will every moment I eat be coming off my race time as penalties?

At the checkpoints, is there a small time reset (or pause) where you drink or snack... or does that too come off your time?

I'll PM my phone number to you Joe, so we can make sure and fine each other in the pits to link up before the race.

Yes. There is a "free time", generally in the middle, that allows you time to eat, rest, refuel. Unless you are late...and want to get back on time. IE, if they allow 45 minutes of "free time" but you are 25 minutes late at the last check point then you will only have 20 minutes to do what needs done.

Other than I am a C-super senior (because they don't have a "D" option... :knary:

Would love to have some company!! Pre-Entry seems to still be OPEN :-)

They posted the row assignments, we are both on row 75 (ouch).

At the FL national I preentered and asked/got row 15. Sure was nice to not ride hammered out trails for a change :lol2: Just enough folks ahead to make the trail obvious and form some decent ruts in turns

2019 SANDY LANE PREVIEW

I really believe, if you had the fore thought to enter this years Sandy Lane Enduro, you will remember this as one of the last "true" enduro test that happened in America! This year is something very special. We're talking "old school" for sure. I'm worried that old man Lafferty and Charlie will have flashbacks about half way through the event and slip off the grid of reality. Don't believe me? Well then, about half way through the piece after the start control in the afternoon, remember me and let me know how you're feeling. We here at Meteor care about your welfare. I'm telling you, you'll be bench racing this event to your grand kids! Unless you trained all winter long like Schleeweis, you'll feel this event for a long while....... in a good way......

Starting at 9am because society is getting soft in general, you'll have a nice warm up through the firecuts before heading out to the blacktop for the last few miles of going in a straight line for a while. As you enter fast Eddie's first section, you'll see the work that the club has put into the course. The trail is primo, tight but flowing and just the perfect length. Even a cry baby like Cliff Tenney wouldn't complain! Overall, the woods trails are very dry, with little standing water anywhere. In the open trail, you'll have dust for sure! No bs. the only spots where there is water is on the roads. Most all have a good hard packed bottom so take your time and just get through them. After resetting out of the first piece, this is part of where the re routing was done which caused us to have to deal with 2 way traffic. Please just take your time as you will be on time and stay on the right side of the road.

As you go by Oswego Lake, get yourself back into the game as it's about to get interesting with Ryan Fitzpatrick's race into the gas. If you think this is tight, your wrong - it's like riding the desert if compared to Chuck Sullivan's piece! Get on the hammer after you go through the fence as the check out is coming up! You can do about 80 mph before we slow you down to the check out. Now it's time to get some gas and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, as the next 2 pieces will test your everything.

Heading out past the lake, welcome to "monkey jungle". Chucky and Ron Decaro I think laid out this trail so you would be sore for the next month so they can score some points on you at the next few events. We're talking old school tight. So tight that old man Lafferty may bleed out. I could picture Charlie and Peter Parlett cutting off and going back to the start. Just sayen... It's a long piece for sure, just get to the end. Trail Boss Johnny Herrshaft took it easy on you and backed down the speed average after the first few miles even. I just hope the Glenn brothers are half the man daddy Billy Glenn was back in the day. If so, then they'll make it through. Congrats, you made the check out with a nice reset. Even after the reset down the road we added an additional "pause" so we can get some of the slower guys from OCCR back on time. At this point this is also a 2 way traffic situation so take your time. You can actually mosey on up to the Start Control to rest up and lick your wounds. Johnny Robbins and Bruce Dengler will line you up and get you started on time!

Welcome to Flyin Hawaiian's tester. What a great piece.... if you only didn't have to ride Chuckie's piece earlier! Only the strong survive! Get to the end! Only about 30 of you will be racing at this point. Remember what I said earlier - it's an ENDURO, maybe the last one you'll remember..... Actually it's great trail, just a little long, but who wants to look at a clock all day anyway. The scariest part of this section is when you come to the BDJ's (beer drinking jer_ ___) check out, headed by the infamous :Bob Deveney with MadDog Duffy as his Sargent of Arms. Good Luck and I want to apologize up front for the BDJ's. After this enjoy a nice short piece of Bill Parrish and company's nirvana as it's all good. Take your time after this piece all the way to the end as it's an Observation Check at the end in front of the gun club right at the beer tent! And this year we'll have beer professionally handled by best in business, Mitten's from STER!

After all, NO BODY DRINKS MORE BEER THEN SOUTHERN TIER!

I don't really know what to make of that story posted. This is now an old school brutal soul crushing enduro? Not encouraging for a new guy. I kind of picked this one to be a relatively easy south jersey event based on old youtube videos, to learn the game.

What is all this about two way traffic? Do they mean road sections where you share the road with cars, or do they mean other bikes are going to be coming back at me from the other direction ?!?!?

Looks like two loops, combined over 75 miles. Estimated 5-1/2 hours?

2 way traffic are non-test sections, most likely dirt roads, with bikes going both directions to get to their next test section. Just stick to the side and you'll be fine.

The "soul crushing" bits are probably low speed with tight trees to weave through. Maybe some sand thrown in to keep it interesting.

You'll be fine. I did this enduro as the first dirt ride I did after a 20+ year break from dirt.

Yes, I was exhausted. But you are already ahead of me because I didn't know to bring snacks and I didn't have a hydration pack.

By the end, I was already such a better rider it was incredible. Things that kicked my ass in the morning were areas to relax and loosen up in the afternoon. Just relax, remember you're racing the clock not other riders do move out of people's way, and treat it like a trail ride.

Good luck and have fun!

My biggest issue is fighting the bike with a death grip, which tires me out way too fast. Not confident enough yet to find my flow....

By then, the other attempts were horrible Mud runs which killed my confidence.

Hopefully there is some grip for my front tire and I can get comfortable and enjoy the ride!
