JD/TPS tuner for EFI bikes

KTM/Husky EFI bikes come lean, way lean, from the factory.
I've been looking at a JD tuner to richen my Husky up.
Or is a TPS tuner a better way to go?

Either one is reversible and end cost is about the same.
I've eliminated to pollution crap and that stopped the decel popping. I don't plan on "uncorking" or any other stuff, it just a little more fuel.
My only issues are that in summer it runs hot and it stalls at low speed or trying to pop front end over a log.

Let me know what you decide on Bruce as I’m shopping also. I’ve been following this guy but seems alot of people is calling his stuff snake oil/BS. Explains what’s new and differences on the past/current models etc. Looks like the guy spends a lot of time developing parts for our bikes. Also straps it on the Dyno so you can see AFR readings thru out the rev range.

All bikes are lean from the factory.
A JD is more adjustable over the range vs just changing the TPS a little which really only affects idle (but adjusting it is basically free.)
The orig owner of my 500 had already desmogged and added a JD so I didn't know what it was like 'before'. Though I've now ridden a friends stock 2015 (who still has the flame out/stall problem) and there is a big difference in power. Mine has a ton more low end grunt. I feel my bottom end is still a little 'snatchy' for lack of a better term so I think it may still a little lean down low but haven't bothered to try to adjust it yet.

I've converted several cars to fuel injection from scratch. Even going so far as to build my own FI ecu at one point in college. IMO, much of thats guys stuff is snake oil.

I've been researching off an on for a while. Other than pulling the smog crap off, I don't plan on altering the stock setup (for a while).

I just want to address issues that I have. Stalling/flame out is one. And although it hasn't overheated, it does run hot and that can be an issue. So just adding fuel for now seems like what I want to do.
Leaning towards the JD as it does have more adjustability.

no argument here Stephen, but most of his parts are pieces that have been known to fail  or is it all made up? The tuner itself is just rebranded, but he does run a wide band on a dirt bike :lol2: to do datalogging. $650 doesn't seem like a whole lot of money for what's involved. Seems he puts a lot of effort into getting things CNCed to scam people out of little profit. I don't know, I wished someone else would put the time and effort so I can make comparisons. Im not gonna lie, I did buy the end cap to make it sound more like a dirt bike at 88db :lol2: and also the ability to keep the spark arrestor

Its surely not all made up. Some parts are prob even good. But then there are things like the TPI injector relocator (you know what not good for a bottom end and cylinder? gasoline diluted oil!) or some right angle fuel fitting BS. Some parts like the ecu and filters are clearly just rebranded. Why go through the effort (and markup) when its obvious where to get them vs just selling the orig parts as a 'one stop shop'? No one vendor is ever cheapest on everything. But I buy other stuff from someone like Slaven's because I'm already there.
I don't think the fellows dyno numbers are to be believed. He uses huge smoothing figures too. Isn't he the one who claims ~70hp out of a 500? Stuff like that makes me immediately distrust anything on the site even if some of it does work.

yes, he claimed 70hp but I think its at the crank. Unsure how this works for bikes, but every dyno custom tune Ive had done on my cars whether on dyno dynamics, dynojet, or the mustang dyno it was always to the wheels for numbers.. He does a stock pull and advertises it, I believe it was 54hp for the 500 but again I believe that's at the crank, so with so called package you get a 16hp bump. He puts everything out there before and after which is key, whether you call it 40hp or 50hp before then this is what you end up with. This is Dirtbike magazine dyno pulls of all the current 450s in stock form. Im assuming its all that the crank, as if advertised on any magazines etc.

Using a EFi tuner is not snake oil. He does re-brand them, for 40 bucks cheaper than JD Jetting does. As far as Slaven's tuner and the Vortex option, you are buying maps that are pre-set for 3 times the cost. I like jeff Slaven's, but his stuff is over priced at times. Atleast with a tuner you can truly adjust the fuel across the throttle range easily and it is totally reversible and doesn't screw up your ECU base tune. I have been running these "piggy back" tuners on EFi bikes for years with great results. It is not about Hp gains for me, it is about good throttle response, getting rid of lean conditions that add heat, no decel pop and excess wear due to lean conditions and just making the bike run as it should. My Road King is running really good now with the Zippers 468 cam, 2 into 1 exhaust and I am using a power jet tune from FuelMoto, but that does write over the stock ECU tune (not a piggy back tuner).

As far as his "Grunt Exhaust Manifold", that is not a new thing or design, that idea has been around for many years and is proven on a four stroke. In fact, KTM (actually Husaberg) took it a step further and "used" to have a dual exit, small diameter header that was essentially a 2 into 1 right off the head to get the same results on the early Berg's and KTM 520's. That's why KTM bought Husaberg, was to get the motor and hence the RFS was born.

The Fuel rail and the 90 degree fuel nozzle, that is just making the fuel flow more efficient. Does it really help much? Probably not noticeable to the average rider, but they are nice billet pieces. I do like his fuel pumps. Those Chinese ones have failed, I had one fail on my Husky 310. Hard to find quality parts anymore that aren't made in China. That's the one thing that always worries me about being out in the bush with a EFI bike, the Fuel pump fails, you're screwed. That's why my smokers will always be carb'd bikes!

Dyno numbers are variable and not what I look for. I could care less how much Hp I am putting out. I want good throttle response, smooth flowing, less heat and good AFR with decent mileage. That is why I use a EFi tuner on every EFi bike I have ever had, except for my little Kawi Z125! I am gonna try out his tuner and fuel pump set up, got a Acerbis 3.1 gallon tank and will install the new fuel pump in it once he gets them back in stock.

Yeah I wasn’t to happy about that. Already going thru the motions of swapping tanks and not being able to upgrade the guts while it was all out. He didn’t have it in stock at that time either, always sold out.
