Rainy and cold yesterday, so I decided to finish cleaning/servicing the swing arm for the DR.
Got it all clean and lubed and put it back on...... crap. I forgot to install the chain pad/guard/slipper thingy.
Took it off, installed slipper thingy and put swing arm back on..... double crap...chain
WTF?!
Off again, chain install, on again.
I didn't bother to start with the forks.

just think the next time - you won't have forgotten the steps....
When I do the DIYS type jobs around the house... I rate myself on how often I have to go BACK to Home Despot..... I know know where they keep everything now :).. However that doesn't help with having to go back for stuff I forgot the first or second time around....
What's the old joke.. How do you get to Carnegie Hall...

For me it's caffeine, in the form of coffee.mullethead774 wrote:Maybe wait to crack that beer til after the job is done? Or visa versa. Which ever applies here.
I either had too much or not enough.
I am highly proficient at swing arm remove/install procedures.

I feel ya.
As I get older, I find that I've been getting a bit absent minded.
Don't feel so bad, it took me 5 tries to get the bottom end on my DRZ back together so all the shafts would spin easily and shift through the gears.

So I'm at it again. More shenanigans by the foremost DAMN non-mechanic
Last week I put the forks back on the DR. Tonight I bolted on the new bars and was going to slide on the controls and see how it felt.
As I went to slide on the throttle tube I noticed that the cables weren't routed correctly
After looking at it for minute or so and moving things around I realized the problem ...
I'll be pulling the forks off again
The throttle cables go betweeen the fork and the center thingy tube where the head bearings are
It's been said before, practice makes perfect
Good thing it's winter and I'm not trying to ride this thing anytime soon.
