Taskers Update

Post by Firebolter »

these are the notes from the meeting last Saturday regarding trails in Lee Dirstrict (Which include Taskers)

Attendees: Lee Ranger District staff, representatives and members of trail user groups.
NVTR Members Present: Mo Moortgat, Tom Heimbach, Jim Cowgill.

Meeting Purpose: From the Forest Service standpoint, inform trail users of current situation and future plans regarding trail management, and to listen to user interests and concerns. For NVTR, display the club’s interest in District OHV trails and offer our capabilities as needed for trail maintenance.

District Ranger Jim Smalls announced, THE TRAILS WILL NOT OPEN THE FOURTH MONDAY IN MARCH THIS YEAR, remaining closed until further notice, because of extensive snow over the past winter, and heavy rains currently. For the latest information on trail opening, call (540) 984-4101 after working hours for a recorded message (USFS Lee District Internet website cannot be updated at this time). Opening date will be posted on the NVTR website when the information becomes available.
George Washington National Forest Master Plan public meetings will continue; first meeting April 14; next and, nearest meeting to northern Virginia is April 28 in Woodstock. NVTR presence desirable; NO IMMEDIATE PLANS EXIST FOR WINDMILL CONSTRUCTION IN THE DISTRICT, perhaps calming the natives’ restlessness noticed the last time.
We updated the agreement between NVTR and the USFS through Stephanie Bushong, naming Don Kirkpatrick as the point-of-contact. Stephanie provided us an Emergency Response Packet with accident/injury report forms and procedures, for incidents occurring while performing trail maintenance.
We summarized NVTR’s activities and interests (including well-received disclosure of service riding point for equestrian events), offering work party duty at Wade Bushong’s request.
Janet Hawkins announced a chainsaw training course, March 20-21 as reported previously, details at (540) 984-4101. Recertifications to be handled one-on-one separately with Wade Bushong.

More meeting details may appear in the forthcoming NVTR Quarterly Newsletter.

That sucks.
I called last week and was informed that the area would be opening up on the 15th of March.
