Shade has more in the way of difficult climbs than I saw at mountain ridge. I really like the tight section at shade with lots of turns. I suck at it but it's good practice for sure. It definitely is tiring, particularly for my left hand, which has gone 'dead' every time I've been there. I need to get back to shade now that I've got the rekluse in the xtrainer. I'm thinking my hand will be happier now. It seems like we have ended up on the southern part of the perimeter, the tougher/rockier section, when my hand is already toast... Hard to hold on in those rocks.

I have a buddy who will never step foot there again after 1 trip and he is decent in the rocks :lol2:
I let that dog BoomBoom talk me into riding Shade a few years back. :barf:

I think I sold my bike shortly after that.

It's actually pretty easy, except for the rocky spots! :loveit: UNLESS you have a worn out tire in the packed snow!

I don't hate Shade, and it has caused me more surgeries than Mountain Ridge has :lol2:

All my >50GB of riding video were pointing to the ground, didn't check it at the start :D.
But for muddy places it is ok, so here's my compilation of mud from Mountain Ridge.

I'll be glad to take you up there for a ride.
Looks to be about 2.5 hours from Sykesville. About the same as Mountain Ridge. Let's do it. Might be time for me to put a proper skid-plate on the CRF.

:lol2: Good idea. As stated, some of the trails are tough, uphill with rocks is not fun. Some of it is not so bad. There is a gravel road running kinda down the middle for bail outs and an easy run back to parking lot.

I can honestly say that the last time I was up there I saw very few rocks --->viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4304&start=30

Ken that was 7-mountains dual sport loop. That was more like paved road riding....Shade is what good single track is supposed to be like.
