After a LONG time away, my car came back home yesterday. I spent this week down in Richmond at my buddies shop getting all the glass back in and buttoning some things up. Had to make space in my garage. Didn't think I'd ever be able to fit a car back in there but it happened. Had to put a bunch of stuff in storage. I'm terrified of scratching it now. Will have to be super careful finishing it up.
Big things left to be drivable are to put brake calipers on, interior (headliner is done), gas tank (I need to weld on it to move the bung location), fix the front oil cooler lines (they hit the new bumper), and lights.

'83 911SC w/ bigger motor(short stroke 3.32L, twin plug, fuel injected w/ ITBs), bigger brakes, turbo body, aero mirrors, shaved rain gutters. Now Mexico Blue (color from the original '74 IROC series. Porsche used an old Ford color.)
I bought it in grad school w/ my research stipend money in the early 90s. $13k - comparable to a new Honda Civic. That 911 was my first car. I didn't really think through that a decade old 100kmi car from a tiny manufacturer would take more maintenance than a new Honda. But was good to be young and stupid then. Was my track car (autox, DE) until the early 2000s. Buying a house in 2002 made me pause the motor rebuild. That got done eventually and I drove it for a little before diving into the body work. But other race cars/bikes/kids/life got in the way for a long while. Back when I picked the color and started the paint, it was unique. Since then Ford brought out the Grabber Blue mustangs/Focus/etc, Honda has a similar one on the Civic, etc. So not as shocking as it would have been. My friends called me papa smurf for a while. We're STILL trying to make a custom front bumper for it.
Values have now climbed on air-cooled 911s enough that I don't think it'll be going back to the track much unless its well insured. I actually have to look into insurance again. I might have to go to an agreed value policy but some of those didn't allow roll bars way back when I looked into them. I need the bar for the harness mounts.
