Trying to decide on brining my GS1250, Ducati Desert Sled or the DR650. Having never done this particular ride, any advice? I think it's gonna be the Sled just for the fun factor.

Is your DSled still have the stock gearing? I dropped mine 1 tooth on the front and it made it work really well off road. I rode it a few years ago on the S500 and it was a hoot blasting the roads and letting the Duc sing!
Lots of cool bikes---

I do still have the stock gearing. I'm curious what the change did to your bike's road riding. I am really trying to keep this bike capable on the road with an occasional jaunt offroad.
I did sections 1,2 and 3 of the NE BDR with it and it worked great, it felt like a heavy version of my DR650.

I can still cruise at 80mph and it is not screaming. Actually makes it more fun on the back roads with the tightened up gearing. After riding it like this now for 3 years, I would not change it back and I routinely rip around the beltway and freeways on it with no ill manners. Another nice thing, if you are cruising in top gear ~50 mph and want to pass, no down shift needed, just throttle up and pass.

Thanks for the info, I'll look into it.

The only reason the desert sled might not be preferred is the water crossings were kinda deep. I’ve never ridden one but they look on the shorter side. When I did the ride in 2018 my buddy flooded ed his klx250. Other than that any of your bikes would be fine.jxs2151 wrote:Trying to decide on brining my GS1250/Ducati Desert Sled or the DR650. My group is riding out there to camp the night before if anyone wants to join.
