XR400R Farkle fest
Re: XR400R Farkle fest
Thanks!Nocturnal XR wrote:Lookin good.......
It's alive! Had to push start it but it fired up and the Q4 sounds good. Not too pussy quiet, just loud enough.
Have a few bugs to work out:
Brake light stays on
LR signal in-op
clutch cable too short with the bar risers (re-routed for now)
Decompression cable too short (take it off for now)
Need to figure out how to mount the speedo with the RSW T-clamp
Regarding the RSW fork brace, a guy on TT gave me some guidance on why the fork is binding with the fork brace. Gonna work through that with shims. BTY, no instructions come with the brace or triple clamp

CHILL I got issues to resolve so I can this weekend, semi legally.Ferdinand wrote:More pics of the finished product
LR turn signal: Fixed - Found a broken wire (over crimped)
Brake light: Fixed, sort of. Have a light for the rear brake, not the
front. I think I know where the problem is, but its good enough for now.
Speedo: Got a plan. Working on it tonight
Fork Brace: Hope to get the shims I need today. If not, the brace comes off for now.
After I get the above addressed, I'll start on the couple of cosmetic farkleing I have planned. Nothin fancy, keeping it simple lol2:

Re: XR400R Farkle fest
Shimmed the fork brace, forks still binding up. Enough of that shit anyone want a $90 paperweight?
Did a test ride on the twisties and tore up the yard a bit. I'm lovin it the bars and risers feel right. Makes my old shoulders happy.
Tried to mount the speedo and snapped the mounting bracket. who needs a speedo anyhow.
Anyone else relate the 1 on the back of our jerseys to
Here is a teaser of the almost completed farkle fest

Re: XR400R Farkle fest
Well guys & gals, the XR400R Farkle Fest has finally reached its end, for this year. Still have a few small things to do such as adding the front LED signals, mounting the analog speedo and the big bar adapts needed for the Tusk bark busters, which I really missed yesterday. Maybe a Scotts stabilizer will be in store later in the season.
This has been a lot of fun! I really enjoy taking a bike apart, then putting it back together better than it was. And the bonus, nothing coming loose of falling off (crashes not included).
Here's a summary of the Farkles added:
D.E.F. Performance suspension tuning
MSR Levers
IMS Pro Foot Pegs
Pro Taper EVO Bars (Windom bend)
Ebay Header (think it's a White Brothers)
FMF Q4
Front Fender – CRF450 – Cycra
Fork boots
Motion Pro Clutch Cable
Primary Drive Chain & Sprockets
RSW Triple Clamp
RSW Big Bar Risers (raised 1 1/2” from stock)
Miscellaneous graphics
Remember the “before”?
And now the after:
The SHAKE DOWN RIDE:
Rode the bike to the secret B DIRT test grounds to shake it down on some single track. Bike felt reel good. Made a few lever and bar adjustments for personal preference. The suspension work is “spot on”. I never gave it a thought until I realized I didn't give it a “thought”. In other words, if you aint thinking of feeling it, it must be OK I did managed to drop the bike once (somethings will never change). B Dirt took it for a ride and had some real positive comments.
The REAL TEST:
B DIRT, Seth and I headed out for a real off-road ride. The benefit of the suspension rework was immediately noticeable. The bike handled the rocks and whoops without a second thought. It tracked really well at any speed and my confidence in the bike built through the day. Another significant improvement was with the RSW triple clamp, risers and the Pro Taper bars with the Windom bend. Basically, I moved the bars forward, raised them and went with a straighter bend (less sweep). These mods really helped me be in a better riding position which was more forward on the bike. It all added up to a great handling scoot.
Our ride covered a good variety of terrain, from single track pines, to uphill rock beds, to hill climbs to fast tracks & water / mud holes. As sweet looking as this bike WAS, I showed it no mercy. To be sure it was getting a true test, I made sure to lay it down on each side. First was the left side on a down hill off-camber right turn. Man my hand misses the bark busters. Second time almost made me sick. Made it ¾ up a hill climb and caught a root. The bike went down on the FMF (right) side and proceeded to slide 20 feet down the hill. SHIT! Eventually I got her pointed down hill and to the bottom to realize my license plate was ¾ of the way up the hill. Thanks to B for hiking up to get it.
Anyhow, the bike felt great and for the first ride of the year, I did too.
So here is the XR after the ride, with my Farkles all Furkled up. Oh well, it is a DIRT BIKE!

Thanks for humoring me by following the XR400R Farkle Fest. Today I turn 50 years old. I'm sore, forearms are covered with branch scrapes, hand is a little swollen, and I love it! How lucky am I to get to do this shit!
