OK, I'm an admitted carburetor dummy. So go easy
DR #1 is, I assume, running rich, fouls plug in a New York minute and has a bit of black smoke.
I pulled carb, cleaned it, checked all vacum hoses, etc. With a new plug it fires right up and runs nice.
There are no external air/fuel adjustment screws. that I can see. On the backside of the carb, after I pull off the air intake, there are two air screws?
Do I need to screw with pilot jet, some clip or needle thingy? Whatever they are
The concept is simple less fuel and more air, lean it out. right?

Re: Fouled plug, running rich
Factory idle fuel jets are usually behind a brass plug. This plug can be removed by drilling through the plug, installing a wood screw, and wiggling the plug out.
Count the number of turns, to gently seat the screw under the plug. Remove screw and spring, douch with carb spray, install screw (gently seating), back out # of turns counted.
This is assuming that your idle jet is dirty.

Re: Fouled plug, running rich
An extremely dirty air filter can simulate over rich conditions as well. . . .don't ask me how I know.
F*** work.

Re: Fouled plug, running rich
I never had a DR or seen the insides of one so I'd go with frogmans route first
but usually rich is from a dirty air filter or restricted, intake or exhaust, assuming its not low compression from worn valves or rings.
if the plugs are wet looking it could be oil blowing by rings or thru valves

Re: Fouled plug, running rich
OK, thanks guys.
Air filter could use a cleaning, that's next.
Plug isn't wet, but I'll do a compression check. Good idea.
And, then I'll break out the drill.
