Good eye, that is a 250 Gas Gas Pampera...one of the best cheater bikes ever built.
Perfect for short leg folks.
The crew consisted of 1 Husky 310, 1 Gas Gas Pampera and 4 Gas Gas 300's.
The picture of the "cliffs" at Double Top trail does not do justice.
Yes, you could ride it but any slip up and your vacation is over.

My stupid battery died right before my buddy ended up bulldogging his xr600 out of the sage brush below. This is what I call a serious Penalty Zone.

I know a small tight-knit group is best but keep me in mind if anybody bails out of future excursions.

Nice clip.
I feel like such a pussy complaining about my oversize fuel tank adding weight to my 300cc smoker and your buddy was manning a 600R tank.
Down hill (like you were riding) is the way to ride double top but us being the he-man pecker heads we are wanted to get all the challange out of the trails so we had to ride from the bottom to the top.

Either way you ride it, at the cliffs, you screw up, and it will be a long day "getting out"..................

Great write up. This thread convinced me to sign up as a member. We have been trying to work out the logistics for a Contential Divide ride for the last several years but could never figure out how to get the bikes to one location and home from another. It never dawned on us to simply rent a place and ride from same. For the most part we really wanted to see Colorado anyhow.

A couple questions if you dont mind. (1) did you map out the riding areas before you arrived? If so, how did you find them. (2) Can you ride UTV's (in case wifes wanted to go)? (3) can I so bold as to ask for the GPS tracks?

It's such a small world. I went snowmobiling with a friend a couple of years ago and we had dinner in Gunnison one night.....

Thanks.

Will, PM me your email address.
Also feed me some info like what bikes you plan to ride and type of riding you like and capable of doing.
Plenty of maps available but you need to confirm with the MVUM map as to what trails are open.
Tree huggers are doing a fine job of having some great trails closed.
Since my previous trip in 2010 we lost 4 great trails just in the Crested Butte / Taylor area.
If you camp / cabin from Taylor Park area you will be in quad / UTE central and I think Taylor General Store also had quads for rent.

PM sent.

We ride KTM EXC 350/500, Husky TE510, and the like. We can ride most anything but we dont want to go all that way to kill ourselves. Everthing in your photos seems doable.

I talked with the Gas Gas dealer to check bike rental availabllity (to get out of trailering.....). He confirmed what I thought, only KLR types available for rent - nothing we are intested in. He confirmed UTV's are available more widely.

It just occured to me that maps are probably available for purchase online like they are for the national forests in this area. I will go check it out.

Thanks again.
