Help me out again- bike has 14/45---I want lower, or slow, ST riding type gearing as opposed to WFO MX type riding.

So up the rear to 50 or 52 (stock) and maybe go 13 on CS.

Right?

Right, drop 1 tooth on the cs is the same as adding 3 to the rear. So with what you have on the rear now would be like a 48 tooth with a 13 cs. You might be able to go as low as a 12 tooth cs which would make the rear a 51.

I think you would be happy with a 13/48 combo.
A 12 on the front can wear the chain slider fast.

I thought there might be a problem with the 12 but wasn't sure of the reason. I thought I was told it was chain wear. It still didn't keep me from using one but that was before chain sliders.

Try 13-45 first. That will be cheapest and wont require a new chain. When I went from 15-45 to 13-48, I needed a new chain with 2 more links. so that big $$$. Don't go to a 12 unless you know that it wont chew up the swingarm slider.

OK....I ordered a complete stock set up that way I know it will fit.
And I also ordered a 13t CS. The current setup with the 45 rear looks like it pushes the chain into the rear chain guide pretty good and the chain is also shorter.

I'll go with that for a while

In addition to the chain slider and swingarm clearance when swingarm is compressed or extended, a 12 tooth counter sprocket is a small diameter so it makes the chain "tighter" around the sprocket and does indeed wear chains faster, but to the average rider, probably would never know. 13 is usually the smallest I have ever had to go to get it right!
