How's your silencer/chain/swingarm clearance? Those side screws definitely look wide enough that I'd be replacing a silencer.
Its a fairly flat profile tire, the screws on the sides don't stick out any further than the knobs when its inflated.
Finished product:
I glued used tubes inside the tires to protect the tubes from the screw heads. All in cost was $32 and change, $21ish was for the screws. I could remove and replace all the screws in about 2 hours + the dismount remount time. Not too bad when you compare these to the cost of for-real ice spiked tires.
They have been delivered, look for a ride report coming to an icy trail near you!
F*** work.

I'm interested in how long they last. Also, did you pre-drill holes or did you just screw the screws in?

I'd have made him mount them up too. Looks painful.

A quick search of Grainger reveals case hardened sheet metal screws at reasonable prices...

I rode with a guy in central Mass who did the screw thing. He put the screws in the other way around so the head was facing out rather than the point. He at least thought they worked best that way.

I pre-drilled them with a #30 (1/8") drill, it got impressively hot.

Your off the Christmas list.
I told Jay to have the Red Cross standing by when he mounts them.

I mounted them this way to 1) reduce the chance of putting 296 tiny holes in your tubes and c) not distribute 296 tube killers on the trails. The screw you loose will be the one you pickup, in your tire.
