As some of you know, I've been wanting a decent two stroke trail bike. My savings for said bike are pretty pathetic. I've been trying to wait and save till I can afford something I want. Been looking at KTMs in the 2002-2005 range 200/250 EXC/XC-Ws, though I wouldn't rule out a decent Jap 250, if price was right and especially if already set up as a woods bike.
I found a 99 ATK rotax powered 250 two-stroke. It is street titled, w/ a fresh top end and in decent shape. I could probably get it for $700-800.
I want a nice light weight bike for single track and woods type riding where my DR650 is a pig. I want minimal maintenance. I've only heard good things about the 4-stroke rotax engines, pretty solid and dependable. Nothing about the rotax 2-strokes.
The ability to dualsport it is not necessary, but is nice bonus.
Any thoughts? Anybody actually know something about the ATKs?
thanks

Re: 99 ATK 250?????
I would definitely look at the Japanese 250 2T's from that time period. They should be going for dirt cheap. restukey has found several KTM EXC 200 2T's in the $1000-$1300 range, 1999-2003 model years. The ATK might be a great bike, but I suspect that they do not compare to the Japanese and Euro bikes.
Ed that used to work the parts counter @ Battley's used to rave about his Suzuki RMX 250, which was the woods version of the RM.

a buddy of mine has a 97 RMX250 plated, really awesome bike for offroading but he said it sucks to ride it on the road but the grim factor of riding a two stroke on the road makes up for it
