Ah, yes, I'd forgotten that ethanol helps short term with water in fuel. I'm not sure it's mandatory though. Liberty gas stations sell ethanol-free gas (although which grade is ethanol-free varies by location). Maybe they have to sell at least some percentage with ethanol... None of them close to me has high octane without ethanol.Skinny-J wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 11:06 amUnfortunately yes, its mandatory, its called ethanol. Its alcohol. The alcohol found in gas-line antifreeze is usually methanol or isopropyl alcohol. Isopropyl alcohol binds with the water that can end up in the tank and then mixes with the fuel so it can be burned during normal combustion. Ethanol does the same thing, but over time, it will separate from the gasoline and cause problems. That's why ethanol is problematic for long term storage, it actually atracks water into the fuel system and then leaves it behind.Marylander wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 9:24 amDo they still sell "dry gas"? I remember the water thing being a regular issue when I was a kid although that might have been mostly related to gas in the tractor/condensation but dad kept a can of dry gas in his truck too. Maybe gas stations are generally better about it now...
The liberty in Winchester at 81 and 7 has ethanol free 93. Not the most convenient but it is available.Marylander wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 2:37 pmNone of them close to me has high octane without ethanol.
The Gore grocery, in Gore (on the way to The Cove) sells 87 and 93 ethanol free. A shout out to Jed for telling me about it!gots_a_sol wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 8:56 pmThe liberty in Winchester at 81 and 7 has ethanol free 93.
