Buddy and I are going down to ride in the sugar sand in the Ocala Nat Forest in FL at the end of this month. Exact dates not final but will include the weekend of the Feb 29/Mar 1 for sure. 6 days or so. We'll have an AirBnB booked if anyone wants to come down and split the cost. Short notice and vague details but if you're interested, get in touch.

Not my video:

Ocala is a fun place to ride. My dad lives down there.

Ironically, I'll actually be down there the same time as you, but I'll be doing the Dixie Dual Sport.

Have fun!

I'm literally on my way to Florida right now. I'm stopped at a hotel in Savannah for the night, but plan on riding the rest of the way in tomorrow morning. I won't be far away from Ocala, either. I guess the stars don't align for me to make it on your trip, though.

I rode though the Apalachacola SF and Tate's Hell a few years ago and loved that ride. Lot's of soft sand in there as well. I can't make your trip but I'll be interested to hear what you thought of the riding there.

I've never ridden in sand. The guys in the Dakar make it look easy so I'm not too worried. :killingme:

GoPro footage please...
My first trip to Crooms I was having a blast playing on the old pits......then I hit some sugar sand and it rocked my world.
Think a trials bike is under powered...oh my.. a foot of sugar sand and I just stopped.
Much respect for those that can roll WFO thru that stuff

Yeah, I'm debating which bike to bring. I'd prefer the 150 since its so light and knowing Dan we won't stop until we have to pull bikes out of it (likely several times). I've already ordered a sand tire (Shinko 540) but will have to decide which to put it on.

I've ridden Jersey pines sand, some Michigan sand, and I've ridden on the beach and behind the dunes at OBX.

For some reason my big 650 seems much easier. Way heavier, crappier suspension, but more torque?

Sugar sand is like no other sand. It's like riding on water and works its way into everything, behind every seal.
