This is alot like those brothers in Florida that take new Camaro's and turn them into "Firebirds". There is enough people out there with that kind of money that will buy these I bet.

Car guys with money to burn....Jay Leno, Tim Allen, Kevin Hart, pro athletes other over paid entertainers, etc. These are the people that will be snatching these things up like skittles. I'm sure that they don't expect to sell 10000 or more but that's one reason they are priced high. If they build 1000 or more would be surprising. But that actually makes them worth more. New stamped oe quality sheet metal ain't cheap especially for collectable cars like first gen Mustangs/Camaros and the like. Hell nothings cheap anymore. To get the entire body will run close to 15-20k. add in all the metal/body work for a show quality paint and you're quickly approaching 50k+. Not to mention 10+k for the engine/supercharger/ECM/harness, 7K for the trans, 5k for the rear, 10k for the frame, 5k for the front suspension..... You get the idea I'm sure their profit margin is still quite high but it's very easy to have well over 100k in just restoring a muscle car to show quality.

I guess if I'm nouveau riche and all my nouveau riche friends have Lambo Aventadors and Ferrari 812 GTSs then a $200 60's vintage faux-Mustang might get a few oohs and aahs for its uniqueness. Most cars like that are bought to show just how big of an ego the owner wants to put on display and I'm just not getting it how driving a modern recreation of a perfectly maintained item that can be had at a fraction of the price makes any sense. Hell, very high quality Cobra kit builds can be had at less than half that price and a lot of very nice low mileage Ferraris can be had for way less.

Very nice original 67 GT500s are about the same price. Your 'fraction' is only something like 7/8ths :)

Yeah but there are '66 Mustangs out there for less than $30K. Now, they're not sporting 400 - 700 hp and most likely 289 engine specimens. I once, in my youth, dropped a 351 Cleveland engine in a '67 fastback that was fun to drive. I never finished restoring it but it was dangerous fun while it lasted. I just wonder what it would cost today to do a really nice, frame off restoration of an original. I've got a call out to my brother in law who is currently restoring a '67 with a hot snot built engine in it. He and his two uncles are pretty well known in the south for show quality restorations and custom builds. I've got a call in to him to see if he's heard of these guys that are manufacturing new cars and find out what he'll have in his car when it's done.

You can get a 66 fastback 289 in near perfect orig shape or professionally restored for $30k? If so sign me up! Thats the apples to apples comparison. Else its like comparing a $5000 decade old Honda to a $30k new one. The new car has zero rust, new brakes, new suspension, new seats, new everything. The old car can be fun to drive and soup up, but lets be honest, its not as nice as new.
