I'll be there too--going with some trusted friends. That said, I've never attended any such event before, I do trust it's fun and attended largely by a laid back persons. As for getting there, I'm toying with the idea of riding my bike all three hours to get there--is it, after all, a duel-sport event. We'll see.

S500 is a great event. Ive been about 5 times in the past.
As this is your first go at it, Id suggest NOT riding there. Or if you really want to, coordinate with a buddy who can haul you and your bike home if needed.

Lots of folks ride down and camp. I prefer the comforts of a fixed base however. :eats: I should be in camp spot E4. If something goes wrong and you need to haul your bike give us a shout. Always room in the van for one more.

Stephen, thank you for the offer—much appreciated. I have friends who are trailering their bikes, some of which are also acting as Marshalers or something for the event. If necessary, they can transport my bike—and me—back home. Not sure if I’ll ride down to Virginia yet or not, ultimately it’s a scheduling thing and if I can get out of town soon enough. Nonetheless, I’ll likely see you there.

Hi everyone, I'm heading down later this afternoon; riding S500 for the first time in 9 years. Excited about it - I'm so glad they moved it from the end of Oct to the beginning. Perhaps no snow for once. If anyone is looking for someone to ride with, I'd love to join up... not looking to burn up the course -- just to ride, enjoy myself, stay on the trail and get back to camp safely while enjoying course & the views.

I'm in TENT SITE #17.

It is always the first weekend in Oct! There was one year though where we did have snow up on top of Reddish Knob that early in the season and the ride up to it was with snow flurries. I was riding Marshall that year and hugging my motor at stops! I''ll be driving a rescue truck/van this year, so if ya break down, there will be 4 of us out there at various locations along the course each day. Have fun-

So you are right; it was the first of October in the past as well! I last rode in 2012... and that was the year we had snow on Sunday morning. Thanks for driving the rescue van.... come by and say hello, but I hope i have no cause to see you during the ride. :loveit:

I'm late to the game but saw this on Facebook. I'm still not clear on exactly what it is. I understand you need a map roller. Is it a timed event? A competition or just a cruise though some off road or rough road areas? Since all bikes need to be tagged, how much is gnarly technical woods riding versus just USFS roads? Do you ride in a group or solo? I'm making mental notes for next year of course.
