Help me out here...brain fart...in order to gain more low end do I want to increase or decrease sprocket tooth count?
I'm getting a new chain for Jr's KX80 and figured I'd put on a new rear sprocket. His bike is setup for tracks, but we run more trails, and he has trouble pulling the hills. So I figured I'd go cheap and easy and try a different sprocket size.
Stock is 14/50-but I'd better check first.
Good idea or no?
BTW-what kind of chain should I get? I hate it when I have 16 choices.

Re: Sproket size
Dirty, go up on the rear and down on the front .1 tooth on the front is equal to 2-3 on the rear if your just changing the front or you could probally get a cheap package deal from rocky

Re: Sproket size
I was looking at Rocky MTN. Will the chain size change if I change sprocket sizes?
I need to double check and what is actually on the bike.
Yes- I'm a dummy But I admit it.

Re: Sproket size
You should be ok going up or down a few teeth with the stock chain, I did the same thing with chris's cr80. Dude put a flywheel weight on that thing makes a huge difference!dirtygrunt wrote:I was looking at Rocky MTN. Will the chain size change if I change sprocket sizes?

I checked out the flywheel weights. That's exactly what he needs.B DIRT wrote:You should be ok going up or down a few teeth with the stock chain, I did the same thing with chris's cr80. Are they easy to put on? Can a caveman do it?
I'll think I'll get him one. Good call Brian

Re: Sproket size
flywheel weight is a piece of cake just make sure you get a flywheel puller if you need one, not sure if you need a puller for the kx, the cr80 weight just bolted to the existing flywheel so I didnt need a puller, you could probally find the info on steahlys website

Re: Sproket size
BTW, don't use loctite red on the flywheel weight screws. My best friend did that and it took some serious doing to get it off.

on the flywheel & yep, a caveman can do it, hell, I even did it.dirtygrunt wrote:I checked out the flywheel weights.
