Sproket size

Post by Laoch »

Help me out here...brain fart...in order to gain more low end do I want to increase or decrease sprocket tooth count?

I'm getting a new chain for Jr's KX80 and figured I'd put on a new rear sprocket. His bike is setup for tracks, but we run more trails, and he has trouble pulling the hills. So I figured I'd go cheap and easy and try a different sprocket size.
Stock is 14/50-but I'd better check first.

Good idea or no?

BTW-what kind of chain should I get? I hate it when I have 16 choices.

Dirty, go up on the rear and down on the front .1 tooth on the front is equal to 2-3 on the rear if your just changing the front or you could probally get a cheap package deal from rocky

I was looking at Rocky MTN. Will the chain size change if I change sprocket sizes?

I need to double check and what is actually on the bike.

Yes- I'm a dummy  But I admit it. :rickey:

You should be ok going up or down a few teeth with the stock chain, I did the same thing with chris's cr80. Dude put a flywheel weight on that thing makes a huge difference!

I checked out the flywheel weights. That's exactly what he needs.

Are they easy to put on? Can a caveman do it?

I'll think I'll get him one. Good call Brian

flywheel weight is a piece of cake just make sure you get a flywheel puller if you need one, not sure if you need a puller for the kx, the cr80 weight just bolted to the existing flywheel so I didnt need a puller, you could probally find the info on steahlys website

BTW, don't use loctite red on the flywheel weight screws. My best friend did that and it took some serious doing to get it off.
