A long time friend of mine was recently stationed in Fort Benning GA. He is a busy guy (LtC), and while is able to ride a little in woods behind his neighborhood, its usually just a few hours a week max.
I made the long trip down and we met up at Highland Park. Its a private “pay to play” property. $55 for two days of riding (camping is free). They did have half a dozen (or more?) little cabins to rent also. I chose to sleep in my van for free.
That is my buddy, Steve. He has a 2021? Yamaha WR250F

Re: Highland Park/Georgia Trip
It was a really cool place. It definitely catered more to dirtbikes (awesome). I did see just a handful of quads, but dirtbikes outnumbered by a large majority.
They had several MX courses (we stayed away).
All the trails are one way, (signage is pretty good). There is a big outer loop and inner loop. This is a wide/easy trail that you could drive a truck through. Lots of elevation change and lots of “water bars”. Plenty of MX riders screamed along and got serious air jumping them.
Then all the actual trails were off these big loops. Many trails were quite short but there was A LOT of them. They also did a fair job rating each little trail. 1 diamond/easy all the way to 5 diamond “superman”. Most of the easy 1’s and 2’s were quad width, while the harder 4’s 5’s were almost all single track.
Ill post more later.

Very cool! Great trip.

Re: Highland Park/Georgia Trip
I rode Steve’s WR250f.
The bike feels like a MX racer to me. Its a horrible trail bike. Super stiff. Throttle response feels like I might launch the bike off the trail if I make a mistake. I think the older generation of WR250Fs were more of a trailbike. This new one IS the motocross bike that just been tweeked slightly. Probably great for someone who wants to race harescrambles.

Steve wasnt quite up to the harder level riding. I did a couple 4/5 trails. I was by myself so I was a little cautious. It was a lot of fun. So many trails I never got the chance to ride.

But it was great my buddy got so much riding in. I could see a huge increase in speed on day 2.

i take it the air was chilly? 10 hour drive?
Re: Highland Park/Georgia Trip
Yes 9+ hours
The weather was pretty nice. High 50’s Sat, low 60’s Sunday. Though it was below freezing at night. I was never in a rush to get out of my warm blankets.

That's where I grew up, Columbus Ga just south of there. The riding there in Ga is plentiful. There are a couple of large off road places in North Ga. Went to Durhamtown a few years back. Lots of ATV's there, this would be much better. Only a couple hours past Brown Mtn! Maybe our next trip?
