ADV Bike day rides?

Post by John F »

I recently retired (woohoo!!) and just picked up a sort of ADV bike to replace my Buell. I'm hoping to do the MABDR on it this year, but for now will be taking some day trips from Kent Island, MD to Michaux or wherever to ride some gravel/fire roads. Sonny, Bart and I did a ride last fall, and Sonny and I tried a ride (got rained out and headed south) later in the fall. Both rides were a good time. Anyway, if anybody is interested, I'll post up, and if anybody wants another rider on an ADV bike day trip, let me know. Weather is starting to get really nice.

Congratulations.

I'm looking for a bigger DS bike to get around on. So, yeah I'll try to keep tabs on things here.

John, I know you tried to get me to do a ride and I kept being unavailable but I would love to do "retired guys" mid-week rides to places like Michaux or, when it opens up, Bald Eagle. I've done both of those on my WR250R and my 1200GS (though I usually haul my 2fiddy up there).

I might have missed it - what's your "sort of ADV bike?"

Thanks for the response. I’ll post up with as much notice as I can. My “sort of” ADV bike is a 2018 BMW R Nine T UGS. My Buell wasn’t the greatest on gravel, and it came down (for a short guy looking for a smaller bike) to a KTM 890 or the UGS. I think the 890 may be a better bike, but the UGS was just weirdly fun to ride.

That looks great and has a little more ground clearance.
