Well I'm going to have to disagree...
Typical "fast internet connection": 20mbps down /10mbps up
Wireless 802.11G: 54mbps half-duplex
Wired Ethernet connection: 100mbps FD
54mbps > 20mbps.
100mbps > 20mbps
Net result... It doesn't matter if you are wired or wireless for downloading internet content.
Now if you are transferring files between computers on the same LAN wired is _substationally_ faster not just because of the increased connection speed but because of the fact the wired connection is full duplex (can send and receive at the same time) instead of half duplex (can only send or receive at given moment).
