The Wasp is dead; long live the Wasp!

Post by Rut Row »

Very bad news. The quote to fix the CR500 motor was $1000 in parts and $850 in labor. :fitz:

So the Wasp gets covered and stored in the garage until I can teach myself how to rebuild a 2-stroke.

I rebuilt a Jeep engine and a Seadoo Engine with no more instruction than the internet. Should take no more than a weekend to rebuild, once you have the parts. We can do it the same weekend we lace the wheels.

wow - what a turn of events. Just when I thought the Wasp was a total loss, Brian Kohl calls and offers me a '92 CR500 that is freshly rebuilt. Brian had the Wasp in his possession when I bought it and he gave Bucho and I some instruction before we brought it home. Brian is a former national racer and former owner of Blackhawk Powersports in Ohio. He also passengered the winning sidecar in the 2006 PPIHC.

I think we need to rename the Wasp - Phoenix comes to mind as that baby has risen from the ashes more times than I can count!

donations gladly accepted :deal:

right now the Wasp is on the trailer in the garage waiting word of its fate. I've found a '92 motor. I haven't decided if I want to try to fix this motor myself or sell the blown '85 and the worn out '85 motors and try to buy the '92 motor.
