Having done a big chunk of these on the way home last year.. It shouldn't be a problem for big bikes, 990's GS's, KLR's etc./ (tho, for the 990 I wouldn't reccomend the oem scorpion tires, as I really didn't like them offroad). A few things:
- I'd like to come (gotta' check the schedule for conflicts), my old '77 XT500 with Shinko 244s should do okay?
- just south of Durbin is Boyer Station (campground/motel/restaurant) with gas just down the street at Ryder's http://www.boyerstation.com/Welcome/
- a group of us did PR44 north of Durbin as far as PR35 at Wildell back in Oct. '08 and it was very pleasant, mostly nicely graded dirt/gravel. I was on my '95 MZ Saxon Country (5" of stiff suspension travel and o.e. Trail Wing tires) and it did fine.

Looks like we have a gas stop, camp, and/or Hotel for those who don't want to rough it... Now if we only knew for certain if they sold beer, we'd be set..

I would think the XT (or a 650gs) would be fine .. at least for day1... I am working on the day2 route - but if pr44 is cool - at the very least I can find some bailout spots...

At highway speeds, I need to stop at ~100 mile intervals to gas up, usually can stretch that to 120+ when traveling backroads/forest roads. I miss the MZ's 6 gal. tank and 300+ miles to reserve...

Beer is available just down the street (walking distance) at Ryder's AFAIK. I don't drink "adult beverages", so never went looking myself, but that's where the guys at the Cass BMW Rally (held Memorial Day weekend at the same place) go. If you want to motel it, best to make reservations well in advance, I made mine for this Memorial Day, last Memorial Day. The rooms (especially the original front row) aren't anything fancy, but they're clean and the rates are very reasonable.

Yep, yellow. I think it was the only color of Countrys imported, Tours came in blue and black.

If Ken and I pulled off last years ride with a klr and a vstrom, both with street tires, then you should do just fine on your xt Am debating strom or dr for this..of course that depends on if someone buys the strom before then (like how I tossed that lil' plug into the mix )
