FB Maketplace to sell bikes?

Does anyone out there have FB and have used it to sell bikes?

I dont have any social media. But a few times my wife has placed ads for me. She is very clear to say “this is my husband’s bike…”
When a person shows interest and starts asking questions she cant answer she gives the person my number and says to text me directly.

The very first time I did this years ago, it worked fine. I was helping an elderly friend sell an 80’s Honda scooter.
But for the last 3-4 bikes Ive sold, FB hasnt been much help. The bike would get multiple hits but when she gives them my number to text directly, I get nothing

Ive been trying to decide if this means the person was really never that interested OR does it feel like a scam when the have to text a different person?

It feels like a scam. I'll be honest, if I see an ad posted for someone else, unless it's something I really really specifically want, I don't even bother with it. If a person can't be bothered to create a free account to post an item for sale, they clearly don't want to sell it that badly through that platform.

(Or they just really hate social media…)

I can see that. But why ask questions to an add that clearly states the item belongs to someone else (like husband)?

You don't have to be social on Facebook to have an account.

The platform allows easy messaging linked directly to the ad and offers a seller/buyer rating system as well. To go outside of that is too much work for most prospective buyers and feels like a scam, too. The platform doesn't allow you to post a phone number for that reason.

Phil,

Just download the FB app and log into your wife's account. This gives you direct access to the messenger app and you can work directly with the Buyers. I don't do social media either but this is a compromise to utilize Marketplace without having your own gay-ass FB account.

I have bought and sold things from/to husbands, wifes, grandfathers grandaughter, all using someones else's account. No problems. I always check the sellers profile and ask questions. There are a lot of idiots and it can be exhausting. I have a real fake account for marketplace and because the DVTR use FB for everything.

I've bought and sold a few motorcycles on FB Marketplace. It's a noisy channel and if if you do your homework and get a good vibe from a seller you can get there 2 hours away and find a POS (ask me how I know). I've had pretty good luck selling there. Just have to fend off the scammers and tire kickers. My usually response is that the first $$$ that arrives gets it and it's getting interest at this price.
