Mdub,

I am going to be changing my countershaft sprocket on Friday when I get out there, and on Saturday or Sunday before I ride home. I will bring the torx I need, but it would be nice to leave my torque and box end wrenches and 30mm socket at home. Can I borrow such things from you?
Thanks.

I have socket box/end and Torque wrenches and a 30 mm socket. Not so sure about the Torx though. You can certainly use what I have.

Are you using your tall gearing to ride out there, then lower the gearing for the DS ride?

Precisely! I have a 14 tooth for the off road stuff and a 17 for the road. Gains me lots of head room on the road, and a way lower 1st gear for off road. With the 14 I am revin almost 6K at 60 and with the 17 I'm at 4500.

Edit>>> I decided to haul the bike in my truck. It's not worth burning 15-20% off my new rear tire on 400 miles of commuting. The funny thing is that I'll spend more on diesel than I paid for the tire. :screwy:
Thanks for offering your tools mdubya.

We were doing it on supermoto street tires...

If you don't feel comfortable w/ your tires off the pavement then you probably answered your own question.

I pre-rode a some of the route last week on smooth street tires. I am fairly comfortable with that. It depends on your comfort level. We did a similar ride a few years back, in the rain. There were several big bikes with street biased DS tires. They wished they had something more aggressive, but they made the entire distance. If conditions are dry, you won't have any worries at all.

The ride will be mostly Forest Service type roads.
