Think about it, this is an opportunity of a lifetime; likely the only chance he'll ever get to passenger on a competitive F1. This ain't nuttin' like monkeying on the Wasp - this is THE REAL DEAL.
You don't want to be the reason he doesn't get the ride so dig out the pocket lint, find the spare change in the couch and let's put Bucho on the track!
and how about tossing $20 in to help defray the driver's costs? the entertainment value alone is worth it!
My PayPal is [email protected] - send cash and send often!
I'm serious! Dig deep folks, give up a beer, sell spare unused shit, etc - lets get Bucho on the ride of his life!
oh yea, also block your calendar to come see this historic occasion!
Here's a clip of Isle of Man - they don't run quite as fast at Summit but you get the idea; Bucho will be the guy on the left.Looks like Phil is my best option for Summit Point. I'm working on the details of an SRA license for him (could cost up to $95).
Double check the rules PDF on the SRA website but I believe his helmet has to be Snell M2005 or M2010 and his gloves must include a gauntlet that reaches above the end of the sleeves of his leathers. Good finger and plam fit for the gloves is important because his hands are all that keeps him on at 170mph!
Your best bet for rental leathers is to find a nearby motorcycle roadracing school. I'll bring my old leathers which I drove in when I as 6' 195lbs but they are probably too tight for passengering (driver doesn't have to be able to stand up straight or move around much). I posted to the forum to see if anyone else has a spare set that might fit.
Let me know his shoe size and I'll see what I can do about boots (otherwise check the rental options). In a pinch he could wear any good leather boot with ankle support and taped up laces but a thinner sole with some feel is preferrable.
I'm coming down as long as Phil commits to passengering however any $ he could afford to chip in would be appreciated. I'll mount a new $900 set of tires for the trip (and we'll burn up about 1/3 of them), towing costs are going to run me about $600, plus entry fees etc. I plan to camp at the track to limit my expenses.
I can promise an exciting weekend. On my first weekend at Loudon I worked my way up to 2nd for the final on Sunday, setting the track record in the process. Last weekend at Shannonville my old passenger returned (after an 18 year layoff, just like me) and we finished third on Saturday and first in the final on Sunday Very Happy
So as long as Phil can figure out how to hang on efficently (brute strength saves you when you screw up but you can't rely on it more than a few times per race) then a podium finish is highly likely.
