7-Mountains Boom Boom or Bust! Saturday Sept 18th
Re: 7-Mountains Boom Boom or Bust! Saturday Sept 18th
Bad news, I might have to bail. My wifes mother had to go to the hospital, so I'm just going to have to play it by ear.

Grady, just give me or Ken a call later tonight with an update on your status.
Sorry to hear about your mom-in-law, best wishes.
Well Ken it looks like you will have to drink Grady's share of beer

Rock lover's paradise!
I survived!
And after 2-3 hours, I had forgotten the brutal off-camber, solid rock, uphill traverses with tight switchbacks
Boom Boom picked a nice route that didn't bore the experienced (trials) riders and challenged the lone intermediate slow guy (me). The dark gray track is the part I rode and the lighter gray track is where I bailed out - more on that later.

Boom Boom started us off with a "short warm up" (read that to be 2 miles of solidly rock strewn single track). At the corner I was ready to bail! 50-miles of this before lunch!!!
After some reassurance (more lies), I pressed on and we did more tight trails, off-camber rocky hill climbs and ... oh yea, there were a few sweet gravel roads tossed in just as teasers.
The first real break was at the overlook

The second break was at the tunnel

Somebody was coming well prepared!

and did you know that in a nearly pitch black tunnel it is hard to see the descending ceiling?

So from the tunnel, we did a few miles of nice gravel roads. The scenery was excellent too. Then more rocks, more single track, and a few nice wide trails just to fake me out
About 1 PM we gassed up and got lunch.

btw, this is not my "I'm tired" pose... this is my "Everything hurts, I have lost all muscle control but DAMN I'm still alive" pose...

After lunch, Boom Boom took us to "The Hill."
He says, just hook up in first gear and stay in it.
Boom Boom takes off and everyone else stays in the road looking at each other. I decide, WTF, I'm still alive so I take off. Didn't look too bad until I got to the tree. Missed the turn and went down. Got the bike up but couldn't make the turn BEHIND the
tree. BB comes back down and says the "Hill" is a bit further up.
Fell down AGAIN turning the bike around, slide down the hillside upside down and was
a blue streak under my breath. Got help picking up the bike and started back down (walking it) and was totally wasted. We all regroup in the road and I bail. Had a real nice ride on gorgeous dirt roads back to the truck where I setup Boom Boom's portable Barcalounger grab a beer (or two) and wait.
After the group gets back, I find out only two of the 4 made "The Hill." Now keep in mind they are all trials riders too!
Okay, enough whining. It was a good time and within 3 hours after leaving I was thinking of going back. This morning, it is definite.
Thanks Boom Boom! It was a good day and my boundaries have been pushed back another notch.
Next 7 Mountains ride I can make, I'll be there!

Nice report and cool pictures. Is that a Dallas Stars hockey jersey as a riding jersey?
