At this point Matt’s bike began running funny. He decided to take the road back to camp. Pablo and I carried on.
A lot of our miles after Matt left was paved. But this was a nice dirt section that curved through these low hills

This was pretty amazing. This section goes through Wind Cave National Park (which we checked out in the truck a few days prior).
First we were very happy to see this lone male very close. He didnt seem to care about us at all.

But then we ride a few miles down the road and find a road block!
The herd was slowly progressing down the road and slowly crossing the road. We moved back several times and eventually able to ride through. Amazing to see them so close!

Long paved section, some of it was great twisty road and beautiful. However it was a Sunday afternoon and was very crowded. As beautiful as it was, so much traffic ruined it for me and I kinda wished we would have skipped the whole section. Believe it was called Needles Highway and went by Mt Rushmore.
We it through and finished the last nice dirt section.

We packed up the truck and headed for home. Though we did stop at Badlands NP. Pretty neat.

Sounds like a great adventure! I've been through the Black Hills and thought it was totally more beautiful than Yellowstone. We were on big touring bikes when we went through there.

Great photos! Thanks for posting. I'll try to get some of my photos up soon.
Since I didn't see it there, some cool info about Devil's Tower -- The outside edges of the tower are all cut out in hexagonal shapes. The reason is because it's made from lava rock (I suppose it used to be a spout? It's been a long time and I don't recall hearing about the actual formation.) Anyway, local lore is as you'd probably expect -- three young indian girls were being chased by a giant bear and ran up to the top to get away. The gouges are from the giant bear clawing at it trying to get to the top.
I'm glad your travels got you out that way. It's a long way to go with nothing else around, but it's a really cool thing to see if you find your way out there.
