New bike, needed a ride

Post by Twist »

I traded my much beloved 1200GS back in December for a shiny new 1300GS. Triple black again. And then the mid-atlantic ice age descended upon us and it took my until early March to get to the 600 miles break in service. For a few months there it was just about busting down its stall to get out on a real ride so finally at the end of March I left Annapolis and pointed the bike west on rural roads until I found myself here in Winslow Arizona.

Headed for a week of riding in California before I point myself east for the ride home.

After the California coast and the redwoods, we explored the limits of our bikes across the loneliest road in America across Nevada and entering Utah, stopped to check out the Bonneville Salt Flats International Raceway area. It's all public land so as long as there isn't any organized event taking place like Speed Week you can go out and romp around the really vast salt flat. Since we had already determined the top end on our bikes across Nevada, and since we had no access to a wash rack to get all that corrosive crap off the bikes, we just walked out on the flats and watched the antics of a few testing their speed.

Tomorrow we'll be roaming around Colorado on our way to Pike's Peak in the next couple of days before heading for home.
