Michaux Dual Sport

Post by phoo »

I thought I posted, but I guess I didn't.

My son and I are doing Michaux Dual Sport this weekend. I don't know if any tickets are available or not. Anyone else going to be there? We'll both be on 350 singles, me on KTM, him on Husky. Planning on hitting all of the options but if others are joining, will happily adjust however the group decides.

Thanks,

Patrick,

I'm riding this with a buddy and we are both bringing our kids, 20 and 18yo. We (old guys) will do most of the options as time allows but the kids might skip a few As. Not sure your kids age but if you want to mix in with us that's fine. I'm either on a TM EN300 (unlikely as its broken as usual) or more likely a trash can DRZ400. My buddy rides a TM EN250 and both kids are on DRZ250's but they are young so that doesnt matter. PM me and I'll give you my number if you want to meet up.

In the past years I've ended up missing an option or 2 as they closed stuff really early, so we won't take many breaks with the hopes of getting all of it in. I'm at war with 3 mile currently so all bets are off there.

That sounds perfect, actually. My kid is 18 and I am quite sure he wouldn't mind missing some A options. If my kid and yours mesh well then maybe we olds can blast through the options and let them stay together and go around if they want.

I'll PM you my cell phone number so we can coordinate.

Thanks,

Sorry we missed you, Sean. I hope you had time to enjoy the weather.

Had a good time with what ended up being a triple father-son group on Father's Day Weekend, which was pretty cool.

Not many pictures, too busy riding. But here's one from while we waited *over a half hour* (someone said 45 minutes or an hour?) for bikes to get up and over a hill climb, followed by a steep downhill on the other side on the first option (rated C) before some people hopefully figured out they shouldn't do any options at all. At least it was shady where waiting and the weather was delightful.

Yea, I arrived there while they were doing the meeting and felt like I was behind, so I was quick to get started. I did run into the C option backup, but maybe 15 minutes max hold up. By time I got past the snack stop, I was riding options that hardly no one had been on to the point they were almost hard to follow, which is where I wondered "where the hell is everyone". I was done by 1pm and eating barbecue with like to other people in the pavilion. It was kind of strange. It sure was nice weather. I never really broke a sweat, which I can say has never happened to me on this ride.

People seemed to take off early, which was unfortunate. Or fortunate, depending on your perspective. Of the six of us, five of us won raffle tickets because so many people left. :-P

I forget what time we got back, but we ended up getting back late and were apparently "the last six people we were waiting for" for the BBQ.

Running three mile trail the opposite way that I was used to was interesting. All of the stuff that I was used to riding as dropping off ledges downhill were climbing up ledges uphill. But it was fun!

Guys,

We ended up riding this with Patrick and had a great day. Missed one "A" option as they were closing stuff so DAMN early like they do every year. We ran 3 mile backwards (as Patrick says) after they closed it and then the rattlesnake loop at the end. Great riding with the two other father/sons. We fell behind with some wrong turns and waiting and were just slow on the day.

I don't post much online for a variety of reasons. But a good story here: We rode the whole thing on Drz, mine a trash can of a DRZ400 and my son and his buddy on DRZ250's. Did every thing on these including waiting for 45 minutes in the am. I had a buddy determined to do the C's on his 701 Norden, which was dumb but his own choice. We waited our turn for 45 min to go up, down, and turn right. Not as easy as that sounds but in no way hard. Went back to check on the Norden and there continued to be a glut of guys on enduro bikes who were getting straight beat down on that one hill. We helped the Norden who was way faster than half the rest and the Chase guy comes over and says "can you tell your ADV buddy to wait for this to clear out." which we did, but of course it wasn't his fault more or less. So then on Monday a DVTR post goes up about this, and I replied that it wasn't his fault, just mostly guys in over their heads and buying more bike than they could ride. Norden posts a pic of him waiting behind like 100 riders (obviously not 100) and shortly after the post disappears. Didn't see why.

I've got an enduro bike but it's not necessary for that ride. The Norden is too big for the options for sure. But the amount of guys who buy a new KTM or Beta and then go right back to falling over in the woods is always impressive.

Fun day riding with Patrick and his son. We had a blast. Michaux is always a good ride and this year I have to miss the enduro as well as 7 mtns so I was glad to get this in. And the first time my son had run 3 mile, so that's also cool.

Thanks for jumping in Phoo.
