I believe the meeting time is 0800 at Point of Rocks or 0730 at my place for those needing to drop a truck or trailer

Long Run - off Hopkins Gap is a dirt road - more Dual Sport than Strom - not that Strom couldn't do it - Jknowledge used to take his vstrom 1000 all kinds of places. I have only ridden a small bit - but I am NOT taking my ktm990adventure on it - I would much rather brave it on the XR.

If I recall, that's part of route you came up with to get out there. Above you're saying that you wouldn't do it basically.....

also - we are taking dirt roads here not an orv, rock garden, single track, or the TAT ... If my 990 didn't have street tires I might have considered it - but this is why I got the xr - to ride out and back - etc.. In any event nobody will be left behind in any event.. I honestly dont think there shouldn't be anything that someone couldn't handle on a Dualie of some type.. I wouldn't bring a sportbike - but I have seen em out at dolly sods ... It's a dual sport ride after all..

Not trampling your plan..just got a bit confused as to which those roads were...good or not so good strom roads. You know just as well as I, owning the 990 that there are places you pick and choose to take it. It's not that the strom can't handle it or that any bike for that matter "can't handle it". It's more along the lines of, this is "a" overnight with reservations already made vs. a leisure ride with no deadline of where we had to be to camp..I'd say sure and pitch tent where ever when I got tired.

I don't want to hold up the group because I'm pushing through stuff that on a smaller actual dual purpose I could haul ass through. There comes a fine line on the strom where the fun is and the fun ends. I believe we're trying to just keep options open so everyone has fun.

You can't make everyone happy. Which is partially why I think Ken mentioned in something like the 3rd page about possibly even breaking it into 2 groups.

You did a good route And I'm sure that there are people in the group that will be willing to join you on that route. I know a lot of effort went into you planning it as well.

That's my story (some of you will note..that's pretty much a story above..sry) and I'm stickin' to it.

If you look at the routes that I posted .. .Long Run off of Hopkins Gap is NO longer on the route - if you check - we hit a road further down off 259 instead... I did this because someone informed me that Long Run was closed the last time they were in the area - and that it's a technical road.. So I pulled it...Also, per my some of my other earlier post - if long run was going to be too much for folks (something that would be noticiable right away)- they could simply continue on hopkins gap and we could all meet up in Brandywine ...

Now that I have had a chance to look thru Mapsource and Google Maps.. The route should be perfect for any dual sport or bigger trailie - KTM990/Strom - etc... It's going to be what I call a 50/50 ride... There is going to be AT LEAST 50 pavement - most of that is getting there... Some of that - particuliarrly getting to Front Royal is going to kinda boring to a point.. Once get to Fort Valley - we are talking pavement - but from then on it should be more fun/dual sport/motard pavement - ie twister road - and once we in WV it's probably going to be choppier pavement and tighter twistier roads.. STuff that will be fun for ADV'ers but sportbike riders would be hating life.. I can't speak for the stuff West of Seneca Rocks - it's looks to be TIGHT paved road - think one strip of chip/stone pavement with gravel side - and hopefully twister dirt and fire roads.. Dolly Sods is dirt - but it's flat... I designed it to be fun for a mid/big dual sport - like a xr650l - because it's what I have... However , a drz should be fine it might have to work a bit harder on the way down - as I am expecting to hit 75 give or take to Front Royal on the slab - but having owned a drz - it can do it .. The strom might be some work in the tighter stuff - but it shouldn't be like hitting the ORV trial either...

I will have maps of all the areas.. If someone starts to NOT have fun or get worried - there will be ways for them to backtrack and meet back up with the group later... That said, someone shouldn't struggle with a road for an hour and THEN decide they are in over their head and be scared to go back on their own.. If you are unsure - you should err on the side of caution and take the alternate route... Also, you don't want to ride with allot of stuff - you can go out to the camp and set up and try and meet up with us (it's a big circle you can run it in reverse - but that is up to you.. It's that or you could NOT bring allot of stuff.. Past a tent - what do folks really need (personally I only need shampoo, toothbrush, change of undies, and how much does that take up.. SHeeeetit - I know some folks who just sleep on the picinic tables or the ground (but I would bring a tarp - but how much space does that take up)..

This is supposed to be a fun if somewhat miminalistic ride - get out do some fun and dirt roads - camp, drinks some beers and do similar stuff on the way home...

It's Aug - it's hot as a balls and it's light till 7/8... It's my intent to get down to Wva by lunch - and if we are around Franklin by 2-3.. I really want to head down to Durbin and hit PR44 (ridefrompie), but if we get there later or are tired - I will take the b route (ridefrompie_b)... I can't speak to either of these routes having never done them - but to me - the unknown and new roads is part of the Adventure. That is why I put it in the name Dual/Sporter ADVENTURERS of MD and Nearby... If it was Bring It To Camp and Hauling Every piece of Stuff I would have named it accordingly...

So the gauntlet has been thown - all are welcome - but this is a ride my friends

Call if you know you are going to be late - if you are going to be more than a few minutes - you can meet up with us as the first rest stop - in Front Royal (Mica says there is a 7-11 at 340/55).. We are going down 15s to Leesburg then 7w to 340s to 340/55... I am sure that with the Capo-de-Tutti - you will be able to gain time on us.. Or depending - you might be better off taking 15 to Haymarket and coming west on I66.

Finally took a look at the GPXs (thanks code).

Now that I know where we are going.......If we get to through the ride down or get back to camp at a decent hour I will probably take a trip down 250.....and maybe do some other nearby dirt/gravel....

Cracks me up. Biffy the Bullfrog's mission statement is precisely for to go camping down bad roads. I got a 919 for speed and a beemer bagger for touring, but the Biffster is for this DS camping trip, right here.

I misunderstood the intent of the trip. Originally in the thread it seemed like it was to get down to a campground in WV where there were "good" roads/trails for riding. I didn't understand it to be that the trip down was the trip and the campground was just for sleeping. Don't matter to me none no how. The following weekend, I'm heading out with my 'sisters' on 2 wheels for the weekend.
