Nice to meet everybody. Had a good time. If I make this a regular thing I should probably find a smaller sleeping bag.
Looks like the total (parts) damage will be around $15. Not too bad for a good time in the mud.

From the pics it seems I missed some good water on the way back. I bet the 650GS was a bit too low for that water anyway....

AccidentalWheelie - Thanks again for the assist.

The strom would have done fine.... it wasn't that deep if you keep the outside path..

That would of brought us back down towards 33 "supposedly" and it would've all been "legal".

I wouldn't mind doing the same exact run again next year as an annual thing, but I do think that it may pay to go back to those cabins at some point and see if the people that own them would have any issue with us doing so before hand as a once a year deal and nothing more (which means that we would have to make sure that people do not abuse that privilege and trespass until we're actually allowed). That would probably lighten the load off our backs as far as feeling like we're doing something wrong. At least that way wouldn't hesitate to call for help if needed too :harhar:
I don't know if we could do that ... My thoughts being that the route we took came out in someone's backyard.. However, staying there we could get out the "legal" way... Also, depending upon what map you look at it actually doesn't link up to the 33 - however appear that rough run road will dump you out of S Fork road - which is the road we took after lunch on Sat - and for a bit on Sun going home...

My thoughts for next year were for a bit more prolonged event as we really didn't get to PR44 and to spot furthere west than Seneca Rock - but a few did peel off on Sun for Dolly Sods - tho I can't imagine a better ride home than what we had..

For the next 7 mile ride, I think we should get down to WVa on Fri evening rather than start so early and take less fun roads getting there (tho we now HAVE a fun route down if we retrace our route home to a degree) as we didn't get to roads west of Franklin (pr44 - etc).. This way we can spend all day of Sat - running around and doing more exporing and having fun w/o being loaded down with gear and not having to worry about rushing home - as that will be Sunday.. There appear to be cabins at Sececa Rocks that will sleep at least approx folks (5 beds upstairs, 2 beds downstairs - as well as a couch or two for $100 buck - which is less than 20 per person.. I am sure we can find something similiar that also allows for camping near the cabins for those that wish to rough it..

This way those who can get off on a Friday can ride down via fun route. Those who can't get off on Friday can take a more direct route to get to the cabin/camp site later in the evening, and we can make the start of the Sat ride about 10am (so if anyone wants to leave O dark thirty on Sat AM - can be there at 10 and be ready to ride - tho I wouldn't reccomend it)..

My quote from the ride while at a gas stop when asked about about the road conditions of the upcoming Dry River road that I had never been on before. "It might be pavement, it might be dirt or gravel, hell it might be a goat path" Little did we know that it was going to be all of those, and the dirt section was more mud than anything... good times...

It sounds like you guys had a hell of a ride.

not! the KLR, heavily loaded, did just fine. It was a very easy creek crossing with no slick rocks and a smooth river bed.
